We start with hand selected 5/4" Western red cedar, and layout each piece of your chair individually. All parts are made to exact templates to ensure the quality fit of each piece. Every piece is hand cut, shaped, and all of the exposed edges are rounded over before it is sanded, so you can apply the finish of your choice with virtually no prep work.

5/4" Western red cedar finishes out at a full 1 inch thick. This is at least 33% thicker than most of the chairs you will find.

We have seen some imported furniture that is built using wood that is barely over 1/2" thick, nearly 50% lighter than ours. Furniture built that light simply doesn't have the strength that ours does, and  just will not last.

You do the sanding, you drill the screw holes, you save big!  This is the same high quality chair as above.  You will receive the parts cut out, edge sanded, routed, ready for you to drill, finish sand and assemble.  All of the hardware, and clear, easy to follow instructions are included.  A fun afternoon in the garage and you will have a quality Adirondack chair that you can enjoy for many years to come.

What you will need:  A drill with countersink bit, a finish sander, 150 - 180 grit sand paper, cordless drill with 3" #2 Phillips bit, 9/16" wrench, quality outdoor wood glue, the finish of your choice.  (A drill press and a belt/disk sander combination will also be nice to have, but not absolutely necessary.)

Q. How does the Fanback Adirondack Chair differ from the standard Adirondack Chair?

A. The Fanback Adirondack chair is specifically designed for larger framed people, and features a seat that is 2" wider, and 2" higher above the ground, the arm rest is also 4" higher above the ground. Additionally, the Fanback Adirondack chair uses a different frame and arm rest design, and features the scrolled arm rest supports, as shown below. Notice that the front edge of the seat does not roll off like the standard chair, and many of the other chairs on the market.  Customers with longer legs will find this seat to be far more comfortable, as it provides a deeper seat area.  While both chairs are extremely comfortable, and built with the same quality and attention to detail, some customers prefer the taller, deeper seat and refined look of the Fanback Adirondack Chair.
